The Children’s Sledge Hockey League has won the first Game On! all-Russian competition, organized by the National Priorities INO and the RF Sports Ministry as part of a federal project called Sports Are a Way of Life! Set up in 2016, the league today unites 30 teams from 25 provinces. The squad of the Children’s Sledge Hockey League medalled at international competitions.
Besides sledge hockey, the league promotes hockey for the deaf and the blind and other types of special hockey.
“We are happy that sledge hockey, which the Timchenko Foundation started promoting in Russia in 2012, has gained well-deserved recognition. Today, this parasport raises no questions; it has claimed its place in the large hockey family. Wholehearted social acceptance will facilitate further growth of this game, so that special kids could play hockey in any town in this country”, emphasized Igor Baradachov, head of the Sports programme at the Timchenko Foundation.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Mercury Space in Moscow 15 April. The Children’s Sledge Hockey League was presented with a certificate worth 1000000 roubles for growth.
Included in the top three are also the developers of a running app and the organizers of the Crimea X Run tournament. According to the organizers, the competition received more than 2.6 thousand entries in all.
